Dawn: Choose to Embrace Love

Everyday is a joy and a blessing. I wake up expecting fabulous things to happen to me or someone. My journey to this place of awareness has been my whole 41 years of life. I expect something good no matter how small or unassuming to others . . . I choose to embrace joy. All my days seem crystal clear and bright . . . open to whatever curve ball is coming my way.

I attribute my success to my desire to never go back to my humble beginnings. Are you kidding me? Quitting and going home to Gary, Indiana was not an option!! I stood there helpless as my college track coach threatened to send me home on a regular basis if I did not perform well. Needless to say, I learned to be a high performer . . . because I could not fail and go home. Life was hard in Gary and the future that awaited me there was not pretty. My four years of being a college track athlete became a spring board for my never be defeated or broken attitude. I made that old man eat his words but I knew from that day forward I would always have to train harder . . . stay later . . . eat better . . . study longer . . . and occasionally bite my tongue to get where I wanted to be. Thank you, Fred Wilt, for believing in me and drafting the blueprint for what was the beginning of my journey to success.

I am enjoying a full life in my second marriage. I am the mother of 3 unique and loving boys. Best girlfriend to an unbelievable list of dynamic, selfless women. Sister to 2 of the funniest men you'll ever meet. Daughter to 2 people who should have never married, but thankfully created our great family. As a former Corporate America leader, I now lead my own family corporation that offers life balance and focuses on good health. It suits my vision and my purpose to care for those I care about, challenge my skills and existence, and help others to thrive. Life is good because I have chosen it to be. I have had and continue to have moments of weakness and failure, but I can still hear Coach Wilt's voice saying -- "I'll send you home." No, you will not defeat me nor will I defeat myself -- "I'm stayin' so bring it on Coach!"
