In 1998 I found myself attending law school and embarking on what would
be the three most difficult years of my life. They were unsatisfying at
best, treacherous and deeply disturbing at worst. Had I been a different
person, analytical and able to compartmentalize, my experience in law school
and then afterwards as a lawyer would have been quite different. I may
actually have enjoyed it.
Law school did not harness my most powerful talents. I am an artistic woman, given to the creative powers of my Piscean moon. My mind conjures images and colors, the silhouette of a tree pregnant with budding magenta blossoms against a deep royal blue sky. I am a writer. I love the senses, sensuality imbues all of life. I am a healer. I listen and touch. I appreciate silence and solitude, those moments when I am filled with the song of myself.
In 2002 I began practicing massage therapy and began a masters program
in creative writing. While practicing law, I woke up each day, dreading
the hours ahead, waiting for the end of the day when I could go home and
crawl into bed beneath a thick quilt. Now I wake up and wrap myself in
the excitement and intrigue of the day.
I am living my dreams. One year ago, I started my own business in Alexandria,
Virginia. I own an alternative health clinic called Vital Body and Mind
Therapies where a team of women offer services in massage therapy, reiki,
acupuncture, psychotherapy, herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, and
business and spiritual coaching. The business is successful and growing.
When I am in the flow of my own energy there is ease. I do not feeling
like work is work. Work is fun and life is rewarding. I wish that for all
the women out there who are searching for their life’s purpose. Take advantage
of your talents. Do something you feel passionate about, not what you think
you are supposed to be. The rest will fall into place.
